I am a registered psychologist and trained counsellor.

I have had a lifelong passion for finding out why and how people do the things they do. My intense interest in human nature, and each individual’s unique struggle towards fulfilment, took me to live and work in a number of countries, cultures and subcultures, with a widely diverse and colourful mixture of people. My subsequent years working as a journalist, and a continuing need to know more about the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of peoples’ behaviour, led me to psychology, and the transformative potential of psychotherapy. Training and working as a psychologist in middle age allowed me to synthesize my extensive life experiences and observations with science, theory, evidence-based practice and a deeper understanding of human behaviour. I thus bring a lifetime of learning and a wide breadth of experience to my psychological practice.

In addition to being a fully registered psychologist, I am a qualified and experienced counsellor (Community Counsellor in Byron Bay, 2011-2014).

I am also a certified EFT practitioner, a trained Eriksonian hypnotist, listed therapist in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and a member of Association for Contextual Behavioural Science (Australia), Mental Health Professionals Network, Australian Association of Buddhist Counsellors and Psychologists, and Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society.

My practice is strengths-based, solution-focused and existential, dedicated to working with each individual’s unique set of needs, strengths and ways of being.  Accordingly, I choose from a range of evidence-based therapy models, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Brief Solution-Focused Therapies, Eriksonian Hypnosis, Focusing, a range of body-mind therapies, NLP, EFT, art therapy, Buddhist Psychotherapy and mindfulness-based practices.

EFT (tapping) is excellent for processing traumatic memories, treating phobias, negative self-belief, weight management and addictions. Eriksonian hypnosis is offered as a highly effective and well-liked adjunct to therapy for a wide range of issues, from low self-worth and chronic stress to addictions, phobias, mood disorders, chronic pain and migraines.

Though my practice is informed by scientific evidence-based treatment models, it is practiced in a kind, interactive and supportive environment. I attribute excellent patient outcomes to my existential approach, a systematic but flexible style, a broad and diverse set of well-practiced skills in my ‘toolbox’, accumulated wisdom, and a commitment to continuing learning and closely following developments in ‘best practice’.
